An aide to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party has died in Dubai, according to a statement by the party’s media chief.
Abdullahi Nyako has been the private secretary to Mr. Abubakar who had travelled to Dubai where he died in the early hours of Thursday, media aide Paul Ibe said in the statement.
The cause of the lawyer’s death has not been revealed Nyako who was described as a long-term associate of Mr Abubakar, a former vice president under ex president Olusegun Obasanjo.
It is not clear how Nyako’s death would impact the PDP’s preparations for Nigeria’s presidential election early next year but sources say he was Abubakar’s right-hand man and could have been instrumental in his victory.
