As part of their ongoing consultations, several newly-elected African National Congress (ANC) leaders in KwaZulu-Natal province said on Sunday they visited former president Jacob Zuma at his Nkandla home “to seek his guidance and wisdom” about South Africa’s future.
The leaders, who visited Zuma earlier following their election, returned to Nkandla to seek guidance and wisdom on issues affecting the nation, KwaZulu-Natal ANC chairperson Sibonelo Duma said.
The creation of unity at provincial and national levels was of paramount importance, and the former head of state and party leader was in a good position to offer such guidance, Duma said after the visit in Nkandla.
“We discussed, among other things, the issue of building the nation” Duma said.
Zuma is currently serving the remainder of his 15-month prison term at home after being released on medical parole in September last year.
The parole is currently being contested because it was granted without following the law, according to the government which has taken Zuma back to court over the matter.
Earlier this month, Duma and his provincial leadership visited former president Thabo Mbeki in what he said was a first meeting of many that they hoped to undertake in they effort “to seek political wisdom” from former ANC leaders.
The ruling ANC party is set to have its crucial national elective conference in December this year.
