Another tropical storm is headed Mozambique’s way and is expected to make landfall on Friday, according to the National Institute of Meteorology (INAM).
INAM said in a statement that Gombe was a low-pressure system that recently formed in Madagascar and evolved into a tropical storm and was expected to reach the Mozambique Channel on Thursday before approaching the Mozambican coast on Friday.
“Tropical storm Gombe could influence the weather in the provinces of Cabo Delgado, Nampula and Zambezia, with the occurrence of heavy rains, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds,” INAM warned.
The institute said it was closely monitoring the storm and would regularly issue updates to ensure that people in affected provinces stay alert.
Mozambique is prone to tropical storms and cyclones which develop in the Indian Ocean at this time of the year.
