Journalist Abdourahmane Diallo and photographer Assane Gueye of ApaNews have been nominated in prestigious journalism competitions in Senegal.
Reporters from the African Press Agency (APA News) continue to shine in journalism contests organized in Africa. After winning prizes in 2023, Abdourahmane Diallo and Assane Guèye, employees of “your window on African information”, were respectively selected in the “online press” and “photo” categories of the competitions organized by the Convention of Young Reporters of Senegal (CJRS) and the Center for the Study of Information Sciences and Techniques (CESTI), in collaboration with OXFAM in Senegal.
Having produced numerous reports on the challenges of climate change and the exploitation of hydrocarbons by African countries, Abdourahmane Diallo caught the attention of both juries for his article published in May 2024 on the level of preparation of Senegal, which has become an oil and gas producing country, in relation to the
Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SEAS).
This degree aims to anticipate and sustainably manage the environmental and social impacts of hydrocarbon exploitation, a major issue for this West African country that relies heavily on this industry to support its
development. Assane Gueye, the head of the APANews photo department, won over the CJRS jury with the portrait he produced of Guy Marius Sagna, an MP and anti-imperialist.
The submitted image immortalizes a significant moment, in September 2022, when Mr. Sagna attempted to block the installation of the 14th legislature, denouncing irregularities in the election of the Speaker of Parliament under the former regime of Macky Sall. The winners of the CJRS will be unveiled on Friday, January 24, during the National Press Gala at the Grand Théâtre de Dakar. The prizes for the CESTI-OXFAM national investigative journalism competition will be awarded five days later, at CESTI, a journalist training institution located at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar.
