“Former Prime Minister Guillaume Kigbafori Soro called President Alassane Ouattara in March to welcome the start of political détente in Côte d’Ivoire, marked by the enlargement measures taken in favour of his close companions, including the vice-president of ‘Générations et Peuples Solidaires,’ (Generations and Peoples United) M. Kone Souleymane,” reports Moussa Traore, a close associate.
According to Moussa Traore, his communications officer, “the exchanges between the two Ivorian politicians were marked by cordiality. Guillaume Soro remains committed to the cause of reconciliation and peace in Côte d’Ivoire. In this spirit, he remains open to dialogue.”
The former Prime Minister was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Ivorian courts for “undermining state security.” He was at loggerheads with the current head of state, his former mentor, following his refusal to join the ruling RHDP, the party led by Alassane Ouattara.
Guillaume Soro, former Ivorian National Assembly Speaker, announced on 12 November 2023 that he was “ending” his exile, which began in 2019.
