APA- Conakry (Guinea) – The President of the Comoros as chair of the African Union has expressed his wish to visit Guinea again, praising the junta’s commitment to the country’s transition to civilian rule.

From 23 to 24 June, the President of the Union of the Comoros and current chairman of the African Union (AU) was in Conakry on a working visit.
This visit is part of the contacts made by the current AU chairman to exchange views on the socio-political and economic development of the continent.
During his stay, the Comorian leader and his Guinean counterpart discussed a number of issues and agreed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
“The two leaders instructed their foreign ministers to explore ways and means of establishing a legal framework for cooperation leading to the signing of an agreement establishing the Grand Joint Commission for Cooperation between the two countries,” the ministers of foreign affairs, African integration and Guineans living abroad said in a joint statement seen by APA.
At regional level, the AU chair first welcomed the efforts made by the Guinean authorities for a peaceful and inclusive transition.
He then expressed his support for Guinea in its quest for harmonious and sustainable development.
For his part, Colonel Doumbouya thanked the African Union for its support and commitment to stability and development in Guinea.
He stressed the importance of African solidarity in addressing the challenges facing the continent, particularly in the areas of security, economic development and the fight against climate change.
With regard to the transition process, the AU Chairperson-in-Office expressed his confidence in Guinea’s ability to overcome current challenges and achieve its aspirations for progress and prosperity.
“He reaffirmed the commitment of the African Union to accompany Guinea on this path,” said the head of Guinean diplomacy.
At the end of his visit, the Comorian President expressed his intention to pay another friendly working visit to Guinea which Colonel Doumbouya welcomed.
Azali Assoumani also expressed his wish to receive the Guinean President in the Comoros.
Doumbouya accepted the invitation.
