Bineta Diop, the African Union’s Special Envoy on Women, Peace and Security has been feted at the just ended Assembly of Heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, said a statement from Moussa Faki Mahamat, the commission’s outgoing chairperson on Wednesday.
This was in recognition of Ms. Diop’s commitment and determination to promote women’s participation, leadership and effective integration of their agenda in peace and security processes and policies, Mahamat’s statement said.
”We recognise the unfailing commitment and constant determination of an exceptional person, a woman of virtue, a renowned activist who has given and devoted all her energy to a noble cause, that of defending African women and particularly women in situations of armed conflict” the outgoing c of the added.
Bineta Diop 75, is best known for her activism to further the rights of women and girls in her native Senegal and Africa and founded Femmes Africa Solidarité, a non-profit body dedicated to that cause.
