The cooperation between foreign intelligence services and the DGST has led to the arrest of a suspected terrorist, according to an official BCIJ press statement.
The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) arrested on Monday a suspect linked to the Islamic State (EI) and active in the rural commune of Ourika, near Marrakech.
The 16-year-old suspect is said to have planned several serious terrorist projects targeting sensitive sites in Morocco, according to a BCIJ press statement issued on Tuesday, August 6.
During the arrest, the BCIJ services seized electronic devices, a plastic bottle containing a suspicious liquid and a chemical powder. The seized substances will be subjected to further analysis and investigation.
According to the preliminary investigation data, the arrested suspect had acquired expertise in marking explosive devices in order to carry out his destructive project.
“He had established links with EI field operatives to facilitate his eventual membership of the group’s branches in the Sahel region,” BCIJ said.
