He was speaking while receiving New Year greetings from members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Cameroon on Wednesday.
He stressed that despite the reduction in the militant sect’s military capacity, the countries of Lake Chad that constitute a multinational joint force (MMF) will not “lower their guard.”
He emphasized: “We must remain mobilised to defeat Boko Haram once and for all”.
He warned that attacks by the insurgents constitute an obstacle to the development of the countries in the region.
Calling for international solidarity, President Biya welcomed the “defeat of the Islamist state” in Iraq and Syria, and wished that the same backing would be shown towards Africa.
In addition to Boko Haram activities in the Lake Chad region, Paul Biya deplored attacks by jihadist movements across the continent, particularly in North Africa and the Sahel.
According to him, all this violence requires, a pooling of efforts and energies to overcome terrorism, which spares no country.
