APA-Rabat (Morocco) – The Secretary of State stressed the urgent need for Hamas to immediately accept US’s proposals for a ceasefire.
US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke by telephone with his Moroccan counterpart, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, about the tense situation in Gaza.
According to spokesman Matthew Miller, the discussion focused on a proposal to establish a permanent ceasefire in the region and ensure the release of all hostages.
The Office of the Spokesperson for the US Department of State said in an official statement from the US Embassy in Morocco, to APA on 4 June, that Mr Blinken stressed the considerable benefits that this proposal would bring to both parties to the conflict.
It was stressed that this would not only facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, but also the return of displaced persons and the beginning of international reconstruction efforts.
The Secretary of State stressed the urgent need for Hamas to accept this proposal without delay. He also expressed his gratitude to King Mohammed VI for Morocco’s humanitarian aid to Gaza and reiterated the importance of supporting this initiative as a vehicle for a united, peaceful and stable Middle East region, the press release said.
Mr Blinken and Mr Bourita reiterated the importance of continued close coordination to promote peace and security in the region. This dialogue demonstrates the continued commitment of both nations to work for stability and prosperity in the Middle East.
