Serifo Djaquite was meeting the press over the 63rd Summit of ministers of Transport of the Agency for Security and Air Navigation in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA), held in Bissau last week.
He announced the signing of the agreement with the BOAD for the financing of the refurbishment work at the airport.
Djaquite pointed out however that the West African financial institution will release the funds only after the formation of the new government of Guinea-Bissau following the last parliamentary elections, which the ruling PAIGC had won.
According to the minister, the refurbishment of the Osvaldo Vieira International Airport will include, among other things, the renovation of its runway and the construction of a new technical building.
A new presidential lounge reserved for heads of state and ambassadors, plus a room for members of the government and another for the speaker of parliament will also be built, said the minister.
A member of the ASECNA since 2006 Guinea-Bissau is holding the rotating presidency of the pan-African institution.
Founded in 1959, ASECNA is responsible for the management of airspace and air traffic security over an area of more than 16 million square kilometers.
