Bodies of 27 men, believed to be from Ethiopia or Somalia, were on Sunday found dumped along a road on the outskirts of the Zambian capital, police spokesperson Danny Mwale said.
Mwale said in a statement that the bodies were discovered by security guards in the Meanwood Khosi area on the outskirts of Lusaka in the early hours of Sunday.
“Police and other security wings have since instituted investigations into the matter,” Mwale said.
One of the migrants was found alive and rushed to Lusaka’s University Teaching Hospital for treatment, he said.
He said the police believe victims were in transit through Zambia on their way to South Africa.
It is suspected that human traffickers wanted to get the group into Zimbabwe before moving them to South Africa.
