The Botswana Red Cross said Wednesday said that it had transported the first consignment of approximately 25 tonnes of clothes, food, hygiene supplies, medical drugs and other non-food items to Zimbabwe, which is still smarting from the effects of a deadly cyclone that affected the country in March.
In a statement, the organisation said it delivered the items for victims of Cyclone Idai, together with donations from the Office of the President and the Botswana Defence Force.
“The donations will greatly assist the families affected by Cyclone Idai. The supplies were handed to Zimbabwe Red Cross Society,” the statement read.
It thanked Batswana as well as the media, churches, schools, private hospitals, companies and other organisations for responding to the call for assistance.
