Botswana’s Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security Minister Lefoko Moagi is due in Morocco to attend a high-level renewable energy study tour at the invitation of the World Bank, APA learned here Tuesday.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson Moreri Moesi, the aim of the tour is to explore Morocco’s experience in development of large-scale renewable energy projects.
“Although Botswana is currently strongly dependent on coal for electricity supply, there is strong interest to develop renewable energy resources,” Moreri said.
He said while in Morocco, the minister is expected to visit a 582 megawatt solar complex and a wind farm as well as to hold meetings with Moroccan ministers and the head of the North African country’s Renewable Energy Agency.
Moreri said Moagi is expected to be with his counterparts from Namibia and South Africa.
