Venson Moitoi who is currently challenging Masisi for the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) presidency recently told a local publication that Masisi had promised her the vice presidency but instead appointed somebody else.
But when delivering his keynote address at the party’s ongoing retreat, Masisi dismissed having promised Venson-Moitoi that position.
“I have never promised anybody the vice presidency and I challenge whoever says that to come here and say it out. I have never promised anyone a ministerial position either,” he said.
Masisi also appealed to other members of the BDP not to castigate Venson Moitoi for taking a bold decision to challenge him for the party presidency at the upcoming national congress later this year.
He explained that whenever people talk to him he listens, and that this does not mean he will do as they want.
Masisi added that he chose Slumber Tsogwane to be his VP ten minutes before the party caucus aimed at choosing the vice president.
