Masisi’s denial follows claims by former minister Sadique Kebonang who recently told the High Court that he received money from a financial management company to fund the president’s campaign for the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) chairmanship in 2017.
At the time Masisi was vice president of the BDP and the country.
“I have pledged my innocence with respective to me taking any money or any such allegation,” Masisi told reporters in the capital Gaborone.
He added: “I don’t know what was testified in court but the bottom line is this must go through full test of judicial process. The truth is that where the money is shall be found.”
Masisi said that during his campaign for BDP chairman position he had issued a statement requesting that any funds received for the campaign should be clean money.
