The letters were issued to former Assistant Minister of Finance, Samson Moyo Guma and 30 councillors for allegedly holding an unsanctioned meeting in late February in Serowe village in central part of the country to campaign for Venson-Moitoi.
The disciplinary letters were issued by BDP vice chairman Yame Kebabonye followed a complaint lodged with the party secretariat by Serowe branch chairman Steady Sethaba who is alleged to be sympathetic to Masisi.
Sethaba is alleged to have complained that the meeting, which is said to have been attended by former Botswana president Ian Khama, was unconstitutional as it was not sanctioned by any of the structures of the party.
The convenors of the meeting, however, insisted on Tuesday that it was “a gathering by Venson-Moitoi’s sympathisers and had nothing to do with the BDP”.
They accused the BDP secretariat of selective justice, arguing that Masisi has been allowed to hold meetings across the country as part of his campaign but no action has been taken against him for allegedly violating party regulations.
The BDP will hold elective congress in April ahead of the general elections slated for October.
