Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi on Monday sent a congratulatory message to the President-Elect of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa after his election last week.
Masisi said President-Elect Ramaphosa’s victory is a clear testimony of the confidence that the people of South Africa have in his able and visionary leadership to steer the country to prosperity.
“As you assume the Presidency and chart ways to consolidate your country’s development trajectory, I wish to reassure you of my personal commitment, and that of my government, to continue working closely with you, to further strengthen the bonds of friendship that so happily subsist between our two countries and people”, he said.
President Masisi further commended the people of South Africa for conducting a peaceful election.
ANC won parliamentary elections with 57.5 percent of the vote. Reports indicate that support for the ANC has steadily declined since it took a record 69 percent of the vote in 2004.
This year’s electoral performance comes amid growing voter frustration over rampant corruption and high unemployment rates.
