Botswana’s opposition coalition Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) was on Monday dragged before the High Court by one of its members, the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD), which is challenging is expulsion from the group.
A panel of three judges at the Gaborone High Court postponed the hearing to August 28, a few weeks before Botswana heads to the polls.
General elections are expected to be held in October.
The UDC said that it kicked the BMD out of the coalition because it would not compromise on the allocation of constituencies despite the fact that it did not have credible and strong candidates.
BMD president Sydney Pilane, a lawyer, explained that the matter was postponed because UDC was still consulting with its legal team to find a suitable date.
Other members of the UDC are the Botswana People’s Party, Botswana Congress Party and Botswana National Front.
