Deputy Botswana Police spokesperson Near Bagali expressed concern about what he called a growing trend in which individuals or groups distribute pornographic material on social media.
Bagali said of growing concern is exchange or distribution of real or simulated pictures depicting children engaged in sexual intercourse, exhibition of the private parts of children and other immoral sexual activities.
“As a result of this persistent immoral sexual behaviour, the Botswana Police Service is now in collaboration with online social media and social Networking company, Facebook, in carrying out investigations with a view to bring the culprits to book,” said Bagali.
He said they have since identified some culprits that are involved in such activities.
“Surprisingly, some of the suspects that were arrested claimed that they did not that exchange and distribution of pornographic material through the internet contitutes an offence punishable by law,” said Bagali.
