President Mokgweetsi Masisi on Monday led a prayer session organised by Botswana churches for the victims of Tropical Cyclone Idai that ravaged Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe.
Speaking at the event, Masisi said Botswana was saddened by the loss of life, displacement of people and destruction of property caused by the deadly cyclone.
“This is in addition to the extensive destruction of infrastructure in the three countries, namely Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Botswana stands in solidarity with the families of those who lost their lives in this disaster,” said Masisi.
He added: “I wish to invite all Batswana as well as non-Batswana residing in Botswana to pray for the victims and survivors, for the governments of the affected countries to succeed in the hard work ahead to restore and reconstruct what has been destroyed, as well as for the healing of the psychological scars inflicted during this painful episode.”
