Botswana’s Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation on Thursday said Matshidiso Moeti will be the country’s candidate for the position of director of the Africa Region of the World Health Organisation (WHO) for a second term.
Elections for the WHO Director – Africa Region post will take place in August 2019.
Moeti is the current Director of the WHO Africa Region and has been in office since 2014.
In a statement, the ministry said while at the helm of the Africa office, she introduced a transformational strategy that has placed Africa on the path towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goal of Universal Health for All.
The ministry said President Mokgweetsi Masisi has appointed former health minister Sheila Tlou as Special Envoy to engage with other African countries on Moeti’s capability to contribute to the advancement of health in Africa.
