Despite the controversies trailing the conduct of the presidential election in Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bola Tinubu winner of the February 25 presidential election.
The Chairman of INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, who announced the result of the presidential election in Abuja in the early hours of Wednesday, March 1, 2023, said that Tinubu polled a total of 8,794,726 votes to emerge the winner of the election.
He announced that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the leading opposition People Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 6,984,520 votes came second, while Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who got 6,101,533 votes came third.and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) came fourth with 1,496,687 votes.
Yakubu stated that “Tinubu Bola Ahmed of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law and scoring the highest votes is hereby declared winner and elected.”
