APA-Abuja (Nigeria) The closure of Nigeria’s land and air borders with Niger followed immediately after last July’s overthrow of President Mohamed Bazoum by the Nigerien army.
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has directed the opening of Nigeria’s land and air borders with the Republic of Niger.
The statement by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale on Wednesday in Abuja said that the other sanctions imposed on the neigbouring country had been lifted. ’
“President Tinubu has also approved the lifting of financial and economic sanctions against the Republic of Guinea,” the statement entitled ‘Nigeria opens land and air borders with Republic of Niger, lifts other sanctions,” said.
It will be recalled that the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS had at the end of its one-day Extraordinary Summit in Abuja on February 14, 2024, announced the lifting of sanctions imposed on Niger, Mali, and Guinea and Burkina Faso.
