APA – Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) Earlier this week, the head of the military junta in Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, received the BRICS medal for his “fight for the sovereignty” of his country.
“I am honoured to receive the BRICS Medal (…). This award testifies to my unwavering commitment to the sovereignty of my country,” Captain Traoré said in a tweet.
The President of the BRICS International Alliance of Strategic Projects, Larisa Zelentsova, who presented him with the medal, praised Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s “determination and courage.”
She also discussed with him issues of cooperation and support for Burkina Faso from the BRICS countries.
“We are in the process of setting up a representation of the BRICS Alliance in Burkina Faso, which will work on certain sectors, and the main lines of action will be defined by the head of state” Ms Zelentsova said.
She added that the areas of cooperation envisaged between the BRICS countries and Burkina Faso include economic development, humanitarian aid and culture.
The BRICS are the world’s largest emerging economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
They have attracted the interest of dozens of other developing countries keen to break away from the current US-dominated global economic and political order.
