Africa-based entertainment networking initiative BridgeAfric is set for a southern Africa launch on Saturday at a ceremony in Malawi that will also include a workshop for artists, according to organisers.
BridgeAfric head Victoria Nkong said the launch event aimed to provide a platform for emerging artists in Malawi to showcase their talent and connect with industry professionals.
“We look forward to a successful launch event and the positive impact that BridgeAfric Malawi will have on the local music scene,” Nkong said.
The star-studded event, slated for Bingu International Convention Centre in the Malawian capital Lilongwe, is expected to attract several corporate executives, African artistes, entertainment stakeholders, celebrities, and local and international media.
The launch would include a talent workshop that would provide a platform for local artists to interact and share their experiences with big names in the entertainment industry from home and other countries.
All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) president Mike Dada is expected to be one of the top speakers at the launch event.
The AFRIMA head is due to speak on the significance of working together in promoting African music on a global scale.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s launch event, Dada noted that – by working together – African artists would create a more vibrant and inclusive music industry that celebrates the talent and creativity of artists from across the continent.
“This is very significant for the growth, development and promotion of the arts and music industry in Africa, especially when you look at it from the point of view of collaborations,” he said.
He called on Malawian musicians to submit entries in AFRIMA, an annual event that rewards and celebrates musical works, talent and creativity around the continent while promoting the African cultural heritage.
“I think from records, if I’m correct, only two or three artistes from Malawi have won the AFRIMA Awards in the past. So, we encourage more Malawians to be part of it so that you can get the benefit of being part of the collective movement of the continent.”
BridgeAfric was launched in Nigeria in November 2023 as an initiative to bridge the entertainment gap within Africa and forge stronger connections between the continent and the rest of the world.
