APA-Rabat (Morocco) Bulgaria considers the Moroccan autonomy initiative to be a “serious and credible basis” for resolving the Sahara question, welcoming the Kingdom’s “serious and credible efforts” to resolve this conflict.
This position was expressed in the Joint Declaration adopted in Rabat by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel.
In the Joint Declaration, Bulgaria reiterated its support for efforts under the auspices of the United Nations to find a just, pragmatic, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution to the Sahara conflict.
Both parties also affirmed their support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, to bring the parties to the negotiating table and move the political process forward.
They also reaffirmed their support for MINURSO, as stated in the Joint Declaration.
The two countries also stressed the importance of deepening their historic relations.
Thus, while expressing their intention to strengthen political dialogue, the two ministers reaffirmed their shared desire to further strengthen the partnership in all areas of common interest, including economic and trade cooperation, particularly in the fields of renewable energies, green transition, high technology, the automotive sector, agriculture and the development of value chains.
To this end, the two parties agreed to hold the 11th session of the Moroccan-Bulgarian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Industrial, Commercial and Technical Cooperation, scheduled to take place in Morocco.
In the Joint Declaration, the two ministers also stressed the importance of promoting cooperation in the fields of education, science and culture, notably through partnerships and exchanges, including the exploration of opportunities for participation in research and development projects.
Mr. Bourita and Ms. Gabriel stressed the importance of EU-Morocco cooperation in tackling today’s regional and global challenges.
They also stressed the need to develop cooperation, partnership and dialogue between the EU and its southern neighborhood, as well as with the Euro-African area, with a view to finding joint responses to all the challenges facing these regions, particularly in terms of security, stability, migration and socio-economic and human development.
