APA – Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) – The Burkinabe army is also trying to dry up the sources of financing for armed jihadist groups.
The national gendarmerie announced on Monday, December 4, 2023, that it had arrested more than 280 people in the Fada N’Gourma and Tenkodogo regions on suspicion of acts or complicity in terrorism.
The suspects are accused of smuggling food, fuel, spare parts and livestock, even to places where armed groups are active.
“This suggests a degree of complicity. The criminals also manage to sell stolen livestock to armed terrorist groups in the underground,” the national gendarmerie said in a statement.
For this reason, from November 18 to 21, the departmental gendarmerie groups of Fada N-Gourma (East) and Tenkodogo (Center-East), part of the 6th gendarmerie legion, carried out simultaneous operations to combat drug trafficking, hydrocarbon smuggling and all other forms of trafficking.
These operations also led to the seizure of means of transport, large quantities of food and fuel, stolen animals, Indian hemp and amphetamines.
