The Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT) of Burkina Faso unanimously approved the 2025 budget, which prioritizes security (27.76%), education (28.34%), health (11.79%), and rural development (5.6%) in a context of multiple challenges.
The ALT members passed the initial finance law for the 2025 budget without opposition.
The budget amounts to 3,149.8 billion CFA francs in revenue, with 3,612.3 billion in expenditures, resulting in a deficit of 462.5 billion CFA francs.
With a focus on defense, security, education, and health, Minister of Economy Aboubakar Nacanabo noted that the budget also aims to strengthen economic and social resilience while continuing the state’s refoundation.
A total of 27.76% of resources will be allocated to defense and security, while 28.34% will go to education, and 11.79% to health.
Additionally, 5.6% of the budget will be dedicated to rural development, including agriculture, livestock, fisheries, the environment, water, and sanitation, supporting the agricultural offensive and the goal of food self-sufficiency.
“The 2025 budget is a tool to build a prosperous, dignified, and strong Burkina Faso,” declared Minister Nacanabo.
