APA-Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) After a three-month vaccum, Burkina Faso is again represented at the United Nations.
“Mr. Oumarou Ganou, 1st Class Foreign Affairs Advisor, 11th Level, has been appointed Ambassador Permanent Representative of Burkina Faso to the United Nations in New York (USA),” reported the minutes of the Council of Ministers, held in the absence of junta leader Ibrahim Traore.
Until his appointment, he was number 2 at the Burkinabe Embassy in Brussels, Belgium.
A diplomat by training, Mr. Ganou served as Director General of African Integration and then Director of the National Office of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Oumarou Ganou will take over from Seydou Sinka, who was relieved of his duties as Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.
The Burkinabe government had not communicated the reasons for Sinka’s removal.
In December 2022, the transitional authorities expelled the UN System Resident Coordinator in Ouagadougou, Barbara Manzi, for wanting to withdraw non-essential staff from UN agencies in Burkina Faso over lack of
security.
