After a car explosion killed five people in southern Burkina Faso, the government sent a large delegation to express the head of state’s compassion and solidarity with the victims’ families and the injured.
At least five people died and three others were injured following the vehicle explosion that occurred on December 10, on the Po-Dakola road.
Among the victims were three Customs officers. The injured were evacuated to Ouagadougou for specialised care, according to the communications unit of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (DCRP MEF).
The Burkina Faso prosecutor announced the opening of a judicial investigation into the circumstances of the tragic explosion.
Initial evidence indicates that the explosion was caused by a vehicle coming from Po, “probably carrying explosives.”
Its driver allegedly forced vehicle through the customs checkpoint, which led to the intervention of Customs officers, who “used their weapons.”
According to the prosecutor, this action would have caused the detonation, resulting in human losses and considerable damage.
A member of the government delegation, the Minister of Economy, Aboubakar Nacanabo, expressed his support for the families of the victims and all Customs personnel.
“We share the pain of our customs colleagues and we assure them of our total solidarity,” he declared.
As for the Minister of State, Emile Zerbo, he assured that all light would be shed on this incident and that justice would be done.
“Those responsible for this tragedy, whether civilians or civil servants, will have to answer for their actions before the law,” he added.
