APA – Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) – The consultations on socio-political and economic reforms that began last June in the interior of the country have resulted in more than twenty proposals.
The political forces of the 13 regions of the country have asked the members of the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT) to pass a law prohibiting and punishing homosexuality in Burkina Faso.
They proposed to fight against sexual deviance, to discourage and prevent the spread of these “phenomena contrary to the moral, religious and traditional realities of Burkina society.”
Currently, marriage between two people of the same sex is not allowed in Burkina Faso, but the practice of homosexuality is not clearly prohibited. However, the country does not have laws granting specific rights to homosexuals.
However, the Higher Council for Communication (CSC) announced in a press release that it had adopted a decision on August 24 to ban television channels that promote homosexuality.
The media authority explained that “the measure is motivated by the increase in audiovisual programs accessible to minors that show scenes of homosexuality or promote it”.
