Six policemen were killed in an attack perpetrated by unidentified gunmen near Inata, in northern Burkina Faso, in a region prone to terrorist violence, security sources told APA Tuesday.
According to sources, the policemen were ambushed Monday when troops of an Inata police detachment were returning from a resupply mission near Djibo, in Soum province located around 200km north of Ouagadougou.
This tragedy which is yet to be confirmed by the army and the government comes in the wake of two terrorist attacks which left 29 civilians dead in the north-central and northern regions.
On Sunday, 15 civilians were killed and six other injured when a truck transporting people and goods rode over a mine on the Barsalgho-Guenbila road in the country’s north-central region.
The authorities added that another attack took place on Sunday on the Dablo-Kelbo road when gunmen assaulted vans conveying foods for refugees, killing 14.
Communication minister Remis Fulgance Dandjinou pledged that further security measures were underway in both the north-central and northern regions.
