Several incidents involving members of armed jihadist groups have been reported on National Route (Highway) 3 since Monday.
For the past two days, transport companies have refrained from using the Kaya-Dori axis, blocking many travelers, transport union officials reported.
The Collective against Impunity and Stigmatization of Communities (CISC), has warned of “the presence of terrorists between Ouanobia and the Nare Bridge” and called on travelers between Kaya-Dori “to be
careful.”
The union leaders told APA that on Monday, April 10, jihadists attacked and set fire to buses and trucks near the town of Nare, without specifying the number.
Wendpouire activist Charles Sawadogo confirmed the incident. “Armed men set fire to two trucks and opened fire on a bus one kilometer from Nare. Material damage was recorded,” he said.
According to our sources, this was a bus belonging to the “STAFF” company and another belonging to “Sahel Voyage.”
Several witnesses explained that the latter bus was on its way to Dori from Ouagadougou. Near the Nare Bridge, the driver noticed that vehicles had been stopped and set on fire on the road and tried to turn back. He was pursued for eight kilometers by terrorists on motorcycles that opened fire on the bus without being able to stop it. The 50 passengers on board returned safely, but all were frightened.
Traffic is regularly interrupted on the Kaya-Dori route. Terrorists have set up checkpoints along the route. Travelers reported being checked.
The Nare Bridge is a crossing that connects the capital of Burkina Faso to the Sahel region and then to Niger. In 2022, the infrastructure was sabotaged three times in a row by terrorists, in late June, mid-July and late August.
