Colonel Zoungrana’s departure came as a surprise to many, given his meteoric rise since the military seized power in January 2022.
In less than eight months, he has been governor of the Centre-East region, commander of the Homeland Defence Watch Brigade (B-VDP) and minister.
A soldier was appointed to head the Ministry of Agriculture. Until his appointment, Major Ismaël Sombié was managing director of the National Security Stock Management Company (SONAGESS).
Mr Rodrigue Bayala, a lawyer and former Member of Parliament, has been appointed Minister of Justice.
Dr Augustin Kaboré has been replaced at the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Sanitation by Roger Barro.
This is the third time that Captain Traoré has made changes to his government.
He came to power in September 2022 after the overthrow of Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Damiba, himself the orchestrator of a coup against Roch Kaboré eight months earlier.
