The city of Barsalogho was the target of a terrorist attack on Saturday 24 August 2024, which left several people dead.
A day of prayer and meditation was organised at the call of Mgr Theophile Nare, Bishop of Kaya.
The Catholic Church has called on the faithful to observe a day of mourning and prayer on Wednesday 28 August in memory of the victims of the deadly terrorist attack in Barsalogho.
In a pastoral letter dated 27 August 2024, Bishop Theophile Nare of Kaya said the call was addressed to everyone, regardless of religious affiliation, to honour the memory of the victims and to pray for peace.
“Great sorrows are silent,” he stressed, urging the community not to remain silent in the face of this tragedy.
”We must speak, to God and to each other, and act so that, with God’s help, this will never happen again,” he said.
At the end of the day of mourning, a Stations of the Cross will be organised by the Catholic Base Communities (CCB) as a sign of repentance.
Masses, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and the recitation of the Rosary will also be held from Thursday 29 to Saturday 31 August to “implore the grace of conversion of hearts and reparation for all attacks on human life.”
