“In the night of March 17 to 18, at 11:25 pm sharp, we unfortunately regret the death of a 62-year-old woman,” Pr. Ouedraogo told a press briefing called by the Government Information Service.
He said the lady also suffered from diabetes.
According to Ouedraogo, as of March 17, 2020, Burkina Faso registered 27 cases, 26 of which are in Ouagadougou and a first case in Bobo-Dioulasso (365km, west of the capital).
He reported that 231 people have been in contact with the patients and that 90 of them are currently in isolation.
“Coronavirus is a highly contagious and very deadly disease…only prevention allows us to fight against this disease because, to date, there is no specific treatment,” he said.
The coronavirus pandemic began in China last December.
According to figures from the World Health Organization (WHO) released on Wednesday morning, close to 200,000 people in 155 countries have been infected.
WHO said over 7,500 have died since the outbreak.
