APA – Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) On Wednesday, the transitional government claimed to have thwarted “a proven coup attempt” against Captain Ibrahim Traore.
The military prosecutor of Ouagadougou reveals that six officers of the Burkinabe army are involved in the “complot against the security of the state.”
Earlier, the government indicated that “officers and other presumed actors involved in this foiled coup were arrested and others are actively sought.”
According to the military prosecutor, the investigation into the case has led to the arrest of four people, but two others are still at large.
However, « considering the recurrence of attempts and other destabilisation allegations, the military prosecutor’s office invites anyone who can provide information to help establish the truth, to come forward and testify,” the magistrate insisted.
Several demonstrators invaded the United Nations roundabout shortly after 8pm on Tuesday, following rumours of an attempted putsch against Captain Ibrahim Traore.
“I assure you of my determination to bring the Transition to a successful conclusion despite adversity and the various manoeuvres to halt our inexorable march towards asserted sovereignty,” promised Captain Ibrahim Traore on his X page (formerly Twitter).
Reports of attempted destabilisation are regularly circulated by the military authorities and their supporters.
On 08 September, the military prosecutor indicated that soldiers had been arrested for attempting to destabilise the current regime.
At the end of August, the Minister for Security warned of the presence of “foreigners” in Burkina with a view to “destabilising the current transition and sowing chaos,” with “national accomplices.”
