The President of Burkina Faso, Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, will be making a “friendship and working visit” to Cote d’Ivoire on September 5, 2022.
His flight will arrive at 11 a.m. (GMT, local time) at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny airport in Abidjan, where he will be greeted by the vice president of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire, Tiemoko Meyliet Kone and members of the government.
According to a note from the State Protocol consulted by APA, President Damiba will meet with his Ivorian counterpart Alassane Ouattara at the presidential palace. The two heads of state will have a tête-à-tête at the “Petit Palais”.
This visit to Abidjan by Paul-Henri Damiba, the new strongman of Burkina Faso, comes nearly two months after the return to his country of former President Blaise Compaore, who had been living in exile in neighboring Cote d’Ivoire since October 2014. Upon his return, Mr. Compaore was expected to discuss with the junta to buttress national reconciliation efforts.
During their exchanges, the two heads of state will inevitably raise issues related to peace and security in the sub-region and in Burkina Faso, a country heavily affected by terrorism.
