The Ouagadougou High Court prosecutor in charge of terrorism cases, Emile Zerbo is on a working visit to Cotonou in relation to the detention of Burkinabe citizens in Benin, according to judicial sources.
The several dozen Burkinabe nationals are being held in Benin on charges of terrorism, a judicial police officer told APA.
“Most of their cases have been referred to the Court for the Repression of Economic Crimes and Terrorism (CRIET) for investigation after a first trial in a correctional chamber. The cases are often referred because the facts are criminal in nature. They therefore require further investigation,” Beninese journalist Ozias Houngue explained.
Some cases have therefore been the subject of letters sent to Burkina Faso.
According to RFI, the Beninese judicial authorities have asked for legal assistance in these cases.
The prosecutor, who was accompanied by a large delegation including officials from the Special Anti-Terrorist Investigation Brigade, also exchanged best practices on the investigation and trial of terrorism cases.
