Through the report of the green supplement of the national strategy for the implementation of the African
Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Bujumbura expects to benefit more from intra-African green trade opportunities.
The Burundian government, with the support of the Regional Integration and Trade Division (RITD) of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), is holding a series of workshops dedicated to the technical review
and validation of the report of the green supplement of the national strategy for the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
These meetings are part of its commitments to sustainable development and proactive adaptation to the challenges posed by climate change in order to achieve the objectives of the Vision of Burundi as an
emerging country in 2040 and developed in 2060, says a literature seen by APA on Tuesday.
The workshops, which are being held from 3 to 5 December 2024, aim to prepare the development of a strategic document to position the East African country to benefit from intra-African green trade opportunities.
The panels will also address topics such as sustainable production, data-driven climate change adaptation, green standards and women’s participation in green value chains.
In more detail, the technical review workshop (3 and 4 December 2024) will present and assess the report of the study of the green supplement to the national AfCFTA implementation strategy, as well as the associated action and financing plans.
Participants will include public sector representatives, researchers, private sector stakeholders, and green economy experts.
Similarly, the national validation workshop, scheduled for December 5, will bring together a broader range of stakeholders to discuss the results, validate the final document and formulate recommendations for its implementation. After these three days, these workshops should result in a validated report with practical recommendations and a clear financing plan for the activities proposed within the framework of the identified initiatives.
