One of the senior officer in the Burundian army, Lt Col Onesphore Nizigiyimana is among the victims in a deadly night ambush on vehicles in central Burundi, reports obtained by APA in Kigali confirmed Monday.
Taking on twitter, the Police in Burundi said that ten people were killed on the spot and two others, including a little girl, succumbed to their injuries.
Earlier Sunday, the police had mentioned a death toll of eight during an “armed robbery on four vehicles” in Muramvya, a town located in the northeast of the economic capital Bujumbura.
A Burundian army officer, Colonel Onesphore Nizigiyimana, and one of his daughters are among the victims,where he was returning from a family celebration with his wife and three daughters when the attack took place.
In April 2016, a security adviser to the then Burundi’s vice-president General Athanase Kararuza and his wife were shot dead while dropping off their daughter at school in the outskirts of Bujumbura.
In August 2015, another Burundian army general General Adolphe Nshimirimana who was a close ally of late former President Pierre Nkurunziza was been killed in the country’s capital, Bujumbura during an operation carried out by undidentied armed men.

term.
