APA-Abidjan (Cote d’Ivoire) The Ivorian Minister of Equipment and Road Maintenance, Amede Kouakou, made an inspection visit to the bridge linking the town of Cocody to Plateau, the business center of the economic capital Abidjan.
The site visit took the form of a walk and he appreciated the quality of the work done for the realizsation of a cable-stayed bridge, a kind whose deck is suspended by cables supported by pylons.
Mr. Kouakou was full of praise for the masterpiece that will be offered to the population in just 30 days.
During Thursday’s visit the minister expressed his satisfaction with the almost completed construction of the bridge.
“It is an emblematic work (…) It should be completed in February 2022, but we have extended the deadline to March 31. We came to make sure that by that date the work will actually be completed. For now we are satisfied with the progress made,” he said.
The Ivorian minister said that the last constraints to the completion of the infrastructure are related to some rights of way on the public space. But, once these are lifted, a fill will be made up to the level of Canebiere Street.
This cable-stayed bridge, with a total length of 630 m, is being built to establish a direct link between the Plateau and the St Jean de Cocody crossroads, an upscale commune in the east of Abidjan, as well as to reduce traffic in the Indenie crossroads sector.
It should also make it possible to create a link for pedestrians and cyclists between the future developments that will be carried out in the heart of the site, namely the Marina to the west and the urban park to the east.
This project consists in addition to the main bridge of 630 m with a 200 m cable stayed over the channel of the bay of Cocody, in the construction of an access viaduct to the east allowing direct connection to the Boulevard de France.
Another one is also planned to the west to facilitate access to the structure from the southern part of Boulevard de Gaulle.
In addition, the construction of retaining walls and hoppers is planned, along with earthworks and roadworks, said the Minister of Equipment and Road Maintenance who visited the construction site of the 4th bridge linking the town of Yopougon (west) to the Plateau on 16 February 2023.
