Malaria is the leading cause of death in Cameroon with more than three thousand deaths recorded in 2018, according to data from the Ministry of Public Health copied to APA on Friday.
This disease, which affects about two million Cameroonians each year, represents 30 percent of consultations and 40 percent of hospitalisations in the country, the Minisrty’s data said, specifying that morbidity is higher among children.
In recent years, the government has increased awareness through campaigns to distribute long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (MILDA), but despite this, only 59 percent of the population used the treated net in 2018.
Since last February, Cameroon has launched a distribution campaign for more than 14 million MILDAs to increase the number of users.
