Simplice Mathieu Sarandji was elected on Wednesday as speaker of the Central African Republic’s National Assembly.
Sarandji, a close ally of CAR leader, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, received 69 out of 90 votes.
He will be taking over from Moussa Laurent Gon-Baba in the position.
Mr. Sarandji faced two opponents in Joseph Bendounga and Martin Ziguélé.
Until Tuesday, Simplice Mathieu Sarandji was Minister of State and Special Advisor to the Head of State.
