The 15th edition of the African Congress of Business Lawyers (COJA) will be held from July 4 to 7 in Casablanca, on the initiative of the African Center for Law and Development, according to the organisers.
The COJA initiative aims to federate and train African lawyers by de-compartmentalizing the various legal professions. The idea arose from the observation that, while there are professional orders and specific statutes for lawyers, notaries, bailiffs, magistrates and corporate lawyers in Africa, there is no platform for business lawyers to meet and discuss common interests.
The need for professional interdependence and transversality is further accentuated by the emergence of fields such as major public contracts, mining and energy law, NTIC law, and the intensification of globalisation and competition.
This initiative, founded by the African Center for Law and Development (CADEV), aims to provide participants with practical knowledge and networking opportunities, rather than just academic discourse.
COJA is an important event that brings many people together. In its early days, it received valuable support from the ‘Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie’ (OIF) and contributions from experts from Africa and Europe.
