Cautious calm prevailed in the front lines in southern Tripoli on Sunday but warplanes have been pounding positions causing casualty figures to mount, with 121 people killed and 561 others wounded, according to the World Health Organization.
Military sources in the Libyan army backing the internationally recognized government have claimed that a jet fighter belonging to Khalifa Haftar’s air force has been brought down in southern Tripoli,
But sources of the armed group under Hafter reported that jets of the national accord government have carried out airstrikes on the city of Tarhuna 80 km southeast of Tripoli.
The government said its jets had carried out 21 sorties during the last two days targeting positions of Hafter’s forces and their supply lines.
As the conflict for Tripoli continued into its tenth day Sunday the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that 13, 500 people have been displaced by the fighting.
The spokesman for the general command of Libyan Armed Forces, Ahmed Mesmari affirmed in a press conference that their forces are advancing fully on seven axes south of Tripoli, accompanied by air operations providing support to ground forces fighting on the ground.
