With 22 albums and 20 international awards to his name, Dube remains one of the most listened to and celebrated musical artists across the African continent.
Even over a decade after his tragic death, Dube’s timeless messages and powerful lyrics continue to resonate with audiences of all generations, races, religions and languages.
To honour what would have been Dube’s 60th birthday this year, the Lucky Dube Legacy Company is inviting fans from around the world to share personal stories and moments when the late musician’s work had a meaningful impact on their lives.
These curated testimonials will be featured in a special anthology celebrating Dube’s towering musical legacy.
“We know that Lucky’s music has had a deep and lasting personal impact on many of you,” the company said in a statement.
“We also know that his music has been a source of hope and political and social activism in many places around the world, and has often been a rallying point for those who have listened to and loved it.”
An anthology is a published collection of literary works such as poems, short stories or essays that are carefully compiled and curated by editors.
In this case, the Lucky Dube anthology will bring together first-hand accounts from the musician’s devoted global fanbase.
Dube, who was tragically killed in a car-jacking in 2007 at the age of 43, is widely regarded as one of the most influential and successful African musical artists of his era.
His blend of reggae, soul and African musical styles resonated powerfully with listeners, often providing a soundtrack for the anti-apartheid movement and messages of social justice.
“Whatever it is, big or small, we want to hear about it,” the Legacy Company stated, encouraging fans to submit their personal stories for potential inclusion in the commemorative anthology.
The published collection will be made available worldwide to celebrate Dube’s enduring legacy.
