Ivorian Prime Minister, Patrick Achi has launched in San-Pedro (south-west) reinforcement works on a coastal road with an estimated cost of 308 billion CFA francs.
The reinforcement of the 353.5 km long coastal stretch is divided into three lots and awarded to three companies.
Funded by the state of Cote d’Ivoire, they should make it possible to link Abidjan to San Pedro.
San-Pedro, the second largest port city in Cote d’Ivoire, is expected to host the African Cup of Nations (2023 AfCON) football tournament.
The road to the coast has been almost impassable for several years.
“The serious politico-military crises experienced by Cote d’Ivoire, have not allowed to give this major road, the maintenance it should have at the right time, to the point that we have reached such a level of degradation,” Mr. Patrick Achi said.
PM Achi also said that this section required in terms of reinforcement, more than 300 billion CFA francs, and it is these resources mobilized by the head of state that facilitate renovation works of this new road “in 15 months.”
The coastal road presents enormous economic, tourist and sporting opportunities for Cote d’Ivoire.
Its rehabilitation should improve the paved road network and reduce the cost and time of travel for people and goods.
Works will take place on the Songon-Dabou-Grand-Lahou section (93 km), the Grand-Lahou-Fresco axis (80 km) and the Fresco-Sassandra-San Pedro-Grand-Bereby section (180.5 km).
The towns through which the highway will pass, will benefit from 72 km of roadway, including 25 km for San-Pedro.
