APA – Ndjamena (Chad) – The mobile phone company is accused of failing to meet the investment commitments set out in the memorandum of understanding.
Meeting on August 9, 2023, the Regulatory Council of the Electronic and Postal Communications Regulatory Authority (ARCEP) approved the penalty imposed on Airtel Chad, a mobile phone company, by the inter-ministerial committee.
The company has been ordered to pay five billion CFA francs to the Chadian government for failing to honor the investment commitments made in the memorandum of understanding of 29 July 2021.
The ARCEP Board also ruled on the report of the 14th audit on the quality of services provided by mobile telephony operators. Airtel Chad’s network quality was found to have deteriorated significantly, while its competitor, Moov Africa, recorded improvements.
As a result, a formal notice was issued and served on these two mobile telephone companies, ARCEP’s press release stated.
